Running Polar Bears & Tyrone Wells at Birdy's

So, Saturday morning it was about 28 degrees with light flurries. Not very interesting, you might say. You might even say, 'who gives a rip, LG?' Well, I did. At around 8am, I headed downtown to run my very first 5K race - aptly named the St. Francis Polar Bear 5k. Accompanied by my account coordinator and running cohort, Sarah Showalter, we headed out into the cold to run. Voluntarily. Which I still don't understand, but whatever. Anyway, it was cold, but we were determined. I was also scared to death. There were all manner of crazy people there - super skinny 60 year olds wearing nothing but shorts and tank tops and other people who had signed up to walk the race and wearing parkas. It made for fascinating people watching. Anyway, before we knew it, the run was underway. My hope was to keep up with Sarah, but she was a bit quick for me. I ended up starting WAY too fast and by the first water stop, had to slow it down. But, we both kept going in the cold. In the end, out of 420 participants, Sarah finished 11th in her age group (decidedly younger than me but that's OK) and 140th overall and I finished 12th in my age group (still young and fabulous) and 167th overall. I ran the race with a time of 32:37:00 and a 10:29/mile pace, which is way faster than I have any business running but what can you do. Anyway, I'll be slowing it down for the upcoming 10k, 15k and mini, but hey, it was fun.

That evening, Aaron and I met up with good friends Carie and Seth for Tyrone Wells' show at Birdy's. The whole show was great, but I particularly enjoyed the awesome beat boxer. He rocked the house. If you don't have Tyrone's album, we highly recommend it, good stuff.
